"Dr. Caffarelli described in terminology I was able to understand the full procedure in detail. He was easy to talk to and accommodating to myself and family members before, during and after surgery.
All aspects were covered, what to expect from check in, pre-op, post-op, ICU, TCU, risks, visitation by loved ones, recovery and follow-up.
I received treatment to replace my Aortic Valve (defective since birth [Bicuspid-Valve] that had developed severe stenosis) and to perform Septal Myectomy.

"Initial appointment with Dr. Anthony Caffarelli. Their process was amazing from start to finish and follow-up. As initial testing provided more insight into my mitral valve specifics, Dr. Caffarelli provided a very clear picture of the issues along with 3 options in medical terms broken down into laymen terms to where it was very clear to us (my wife and I).
Then, the actual surgery (ICU 2-3 days) along with 3-4 days hospital recovery time was well choreographed and attended to. While it was my first open-heart surgery (minimally-invasive), once out of ICU, it took a bit time to get the pain meds working as the anesthesia was wearing off, which is always a case by case patient-dependent situation.

"Dr. Anthony Caffarelli is a wonderful doctor, very skillful surgeon, I have all the confidence in him. On my first meeting with him I was so nervous, I wrote a list of questions to ask him. At this preop visit he was so thorough in explaining everything that I needed to know, covering every aspect of my mitral valve problem and the surgery including what to expect in preop and postoperative.
At the end of this meeting I had no questions to ask him. He covered everything, I was less nervous, I felt at ease and I felt a lot of confidence in him. After my surgery I felt good sitting out of bed, walking with very little pain. On day three I was able to walk on my own 3-4 rounds around the surgical floor. Upon discharge I was able to walk to my front door without assistance.
My recovery was excellent, on my first postoperative visit with Dr. Caffarelli I was so happy I was almost in tears thanking him for a job well done. I continued to improve, lots of trips to movie theatre this time climbing stairs without breathlessness, dancing, lots of walking and doing cardiac rehab. "Dr. Caffarelli thought I might need the valve replaced after reviewing the original echocardiogram. I have cardiomyopathy which is the thickening of the heart wall. Dr. Caffarelli cut 2.5cm x 3.5cm out of the heart muscle. With this repair, the valve returned to normal operation.
Before surgery... For the last 7 years, I have been unable to run, walk stairs, exercise or walk on an incline (ramps, hills). After this surgery, I am restored to full ability to take stairs at will, walk hills and only 148 days out of surgery I just completed a 5K walk.
I owe all of this "new life" and restored functionality to the ultra-professional surgical treatment by Dr. Caffarelli. It began with the pre-surgical treatment and the professional testing and pre-surgical preparation to the treatment by his team in the hospital and now in the after-care phase.

"When I learned about my need for aortic root repair and ascending aorta replacement, I was apprehensive to say the least. I had consulted with a surgeon from another medical group and was given few, straight answers and only about five minutes of his time, where he simply shrugged his shoulders and told me he simply didn't know.
Changing medical groups so that I could instead have my surgery done at Hoag with Dr. Anthony Caffarelli was the best thing I could have ever done.
