Dr. Joseph Lamelas saved my life twice in less than 10 days!!First of all, he fixed my mitral valve with a complex repair using his pioneered minimally invasive heart surgery (2 week recovery vs 6 weeks). Most other doctors would have used open heart surgery and would’ve replaced my deteriorated valve as it is easier for them. It also secures another surgery in 10-12 years. Not only did he have the ability to do such a complex repair, but few doctors these days think of their patients instead of their pocket!
Eight days after surgery, I went to a local hospital for fainting and was misdiagnosed. They wanted to operate my perform open heart surgery on me. God thankfully gave me the strength to return to UM and Dr. Lamelas’ team waited for me at the ER of University of Miami. He accessed me correctly and I was able to return home with only adjustments to my medication. His nurse practitioner was available always via text( even after 3 weeks) giving me guidance and strength throughout the entire process. Dr. Lamelas is a wise and compassionate heart surgeon!! He gets his patients out of the hospital as quick as possible to avoid other complications. Most others, try to run up a bill. He visits his patients everyday after surgery (even Sunday). I don’t believe there is any doctor in the world that can fill his shoes. I feel God had him return to work in Miami to save my life and many others in the area.
